Selection Process
Selection has two stages: an MCQ exam conducted by DSSSB and an interview conducted by the office of the Principal District & Sessions Judge (HQs).
Stage 1: Objective (MCQ) Test, 100 Marks
| Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| English | 25 | 25 |
| Hindi | 25 | 25 |
| General Knowledge (incl. Current Affairs) | 25 | 25 |
| Arithmetic | 25 | 25 |
| Total | 100 | 100 |
- Duration: 120 minutes (160 minutes for PwD candidates)
- Negative marking: 0.25 marks for each wrong answer
- Language: Bilingual (English and Hindi), except the English and Hindi language questions
- Minimum qualifying marks: 50% for UR/EWS and 45% for OBC (Delhi)/SC/ST/PwBD/ESM
Stage 2: Interview, 15 Marks
- Candidates up to 10 times the number of vacancies will be called for the interview.
- There is no minimum qualifying mark in the interview.
- Final merit is based on marks in the MCQ exam plus the interview, and the merit list is prepared by the District & Sessions Courts, Tis Hazari.
- If marks are tied, the older candidate gets the higher rank. If the date of birth is also the same, the candidate whose first name comes first alphabetically is ranked higher.
Interview Stage: What Candidates Should Know
The interview is not a new addition. It was also part of the selection process in earlier Delhi District Courts recruitments for Peon, Chowkidar and Sweeper posts, so candidates familiar with those cycles will find the structure the same. Still, the interview carries real weight here. It is worth 15 marks, and the final merit list is prepared by adding the MCQ marks and the interview marks together. The notification also says there is no minimum qualifying mark in the interview, and the marking criteria for it are not described anywhere in the advertisement.
This matters because in a competitive Group C recruitment, a few marks can change a candidate’s rank, and the cut-offs may be close. Up to 10 times the number of vacancies can be called for the interview, which means a large number of candidates will be assessed on the same 15 marks. Since the notification does not tell candidates what the interview will assess, or how the 15 marks will be divided, candidates are left to guess how to prepare.
It would help if the District Courts published the interview pattern and marking scheme well before the interview dates, as this would make the process more transparent for everyone. Until then, the safest approach is to prepare for both stages: score well in the MCQ test, and be ready for a general interview about your background, documents and basic awareness.
Important Points for OBC and EWS Candidates
- Only OBC (Delhi) candidates get OBC reservation. OBC (Outside Delhi) candidates must apply under the UR category.
- OBC candidates need an OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate issued on or after 01.04.2026 and not later than 11.11.2026.
- EWS candidates need an Income & Asset Certificate valid for FY 2026-27 (based on FY 2025-26 income), issued on or before 11.11.2026.
